Located in Checheng, also known is the Secret Garden, is the Railway Sightseeing School. It was officially opened to the public on September 18. Besides being a visitor center, this railway sightseeing school also shows a video of the Jiji train running on the railway, a power train model running on railway track, and a display of an old locomotive (model R100 – R114) and old passenger car (model 35SPK32700). It is also closely connected to the Checheng Train Station, the nostalgic retro Railway Culture Park, and the old railway scene that exhibits over 10 antique trains. This addition will make Checheng the sought after travel destinations for railway enthusiasts once again, and will be a prelude to the 2022 Railway Sightseeing Tour.
The location for the Railway Sightseeing School was once an abandoned elementary school. After renovation, the former school that once nurtured many young students now witnesses the idle school being converted as it transforms to an emerging tourist attraction. It’s also a symbol that fully shows the new hope for the Jiji line on the 20th anniversary of the 921 Earthquake.
