Many lakes in Taiwan are polluted and look very dirty, but Sun Moon Lake looks very clear. Why?
Firstly, the water is recycled due to the pump-storage hydroelectric power generation. The water of the lake is drawn to the plants for generating power during the daytime, and is pumped back to the lake during the nighttime. Some of the water flows to downstream for drinking and irrigation. Secondly, the deepest depth is about 30 meters, and deep water makes lake look clear. Thirdly, the growth of the plants and fishes in the lake are under control. The Taiwan Power Company doesn’t let the plants and fishes pollute the water, so Taiwan Power Company would do anything at any time to help improve the water quality.
