The Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) has launched a bus tour package visiting aboriginal communities in the Sun Moon Lake area in Nantou County in June 2015 as part of its efforts to promote “Taiwan's Tourism Action Plan.”
The Bunun, called the Vonum in historical documents dating from the Qing Dynasty, owe their name to "Bunun" meaning "human being" in their native language.
The Thao people's ancestors carried the name “Thao,” which has been passed down from generation to generation. They are proud of the name. Over the past 200 years, the Thao have suffered a severe impact from the Chinese settlers and the government's political intervention.
Thao people are a small aboriginal group who live in the neighborhood of Sun Moon Lake. They are categorized as an Austronesian people.
Shows are performed on Saturdays and Sundays.br
