It is about 35 meters long, 17 meters wide, and has a total of 13 eyes. The top of the kiln has smoke outlets. In the past, this kind of kiln was a man-made fire kiln produced by farming communities. This kiln, painstakingly built by the earlier generation, was sadly destroyed in the 921 Earthquake, and all that is left is the kiln top, standing up straight.
【Dajhuhu Nature Trail】 The Dajhuhu Nature Trail is only 80 meters long, making it the shortest trail at Sun Moon Lake. Enter the trail beside the parking lot below the highway, and pretty soon you come to an observation platform. On the right side of the platform is a trail leading down to the shore of the lake. On the lake below the trail is an area of boiling, rumbling water that we call the Sun Moon Fountain. Actually, this is where water from an undergroud tunnel empties into the lake. When the Japanese occupied Taiwan, they dug a tunnel all the way from Wujie Village in Ren-ai Township to the lake and used it to divert water from the Jhuoshuei River. This is the main source of water for the lake.
【Wenwu Temple】 The architecture of the temple has the palace style of northern China. It is a large and imposing structure, with three separate halls. On the second floor of the front hall is a shrine devoted to the First Ancestor Kaiji and the God of Literature; the central hall is devoted to Guan Gong, the God of War, and the warrior-god Yue Fei; and the rear hall memorializes Confucius. This is the only Confucius Temple in Taiwan that keeps its central door open. Another interesting feature of the temple is the two vermillion stone lions on the two sides of the front plaza. They were donated by Wu Huo-shih, the late chairman of the Shin Kong Life Insurance Company, whose name meant "fire lion." | | Second Day:Breakfast → Shueishe Pier → Lalu Island → Puli Winery (try the local specialty made by Shaosing Rice Wine → lunch → Jhungtai Temple → Return home | | | 【Shueishe Pier】 Shueishe is a hub of transport at Sun Moon Lake and hosts a concentration of hotels, as well as the site of the Mingsheng pedestrian shopping street. The wharf offers fine views, and its floating docks add a bit of classical flavor to this modern scene. Frequent activities and performances take place here.
【Puli Winery】 Shaosing Rice Wine is one of our eight national wines. As implied by its name, it was originally produced in Shaosing, in China’s Zhejiang province, where it was made and fermented from high-quality sticky rice, barley, and the water from Jianhu Lake. Puli Winery uses its own improved method of making the wine. It is sealed tightly and stored in an earthen jar for at least 30 months before becoming available for marketing. For a more high-quality Shaosing Wine, at least 60 months are required for storage.

Over 100 other species live in this park, including the mountain chicken, the Formosan blue magpie, the long-tailed pheasant, the golden pheasant, the ampherst pheasant, and the black coot. Also, many national and international specimens of butterflies are on display, in the Butterfly Museum, each with detailed explanations. These displays are helpful in adding to the tourists’ knowledge of butterfly ecology. | |
