Chi-tou
Sitou
Chi-tou is located in the foothills of Fonghuang Mountain, in Lugu Township. It is one of seven National Taiwan University's experimental forests. The afforestation work mainly involves the growth of Taiwan fir, China fir, red cypress, etc. The magnificent sight of towering trees can be seen everywhere. The area also has Divine Trees, a "Forest Ocean" and the University Pond. In 1973, it opened up as an amusement area, and with its beautiful green forest scenery, and moderate climate, it makes an ideal place to escape the heat. Every vacation sees a large crowd of people coming here.

In the dark green and beautifully secluded Chi-tou, one can hear the sounds of insects and birds who dwell in this fresh environment. Different areas of the forest are connected by wooden or concrete footpaths. A tarmac avenue runs through the entire area, connecting all the scenic areas of Chi-tou. Upon entering the main gate of the forest amusement area, the people and vehicles separate. The people take the wooden path on the right, and the vehicles take the tarmac road. The first sight to greet the eyes is the National Guest House, and upon turning right is the Han Kuan Hotel, both of which are open to visitors. The Phoenix Guest House is located next to the Specimen Park. The Chi-tou hotel area is the starting and finishing point of each main street. Therefore, this area connects easily with the Gingko Tree Forest, the Deer Park, the Bamboo Forest, the University Pond, and the Divine Trees.

The famous University Pond is the signature landscape of Chi-tou. The bamboo-arched bridge crosses over the blue waters of the pond. The sight of the blue waves, with the brightly colored fish, and one's own reflection on the waters, create a delightful scenery. The most enticing place in this scenic area has to be the tall forests, which are most representative of Taiwan fir. The forest, with its fir trees planted by hand, are one of the distinguishing characteristics of Chi-tou.

The air is fresh, and there are no undesired noises. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely and carefree walk in the quiet, secluded forest, experiencing the tranquil, dark green, natural environment. In addition, favorite photograph areas include the Bamboo Forest and the Chinese cypress. The “Bamboo Hut” is made entirely of bamboo, and has a beautiful and classically elegant appearance.

The giant red cypress trees of Chi-tou are close to 3,000 years old, and the tree centers are hollow, allowing visitors to pass through the tree holes. Hidden in the holes are rocks that are bigger that the tree holes, and their origins are of great puzzlement. Near to the Divine Trees is the Gingko Tree Area. Gingko trees date back to an early geological era, and are also called "maidenhair trees" or "baiguo". They already existed on this earth 200 million years ago, making this gingko forest comparable to a "living fossil". Besides describing Chi-tou's special scenery, builders have especially designed an exhibition room and specimen park for the enjoyment of the tourists, and for the purpose of introducing Chi-tou's nature resources.
