The special boathouses around Sun Moon Lake obtained their quadrangular-net fishing permits between 1994 and 1997. The permits were issued by Nantou Fishery Association, Sun Moon Lake Division with the authorization from Nantou County Government under “Rules and Regulations for Sampan and Raft Fishing for Members of Nantou Fishery Association, Sun Moon Lake Division.” A total of 93 permits were issued, and the boathouses were only legally allowed to fish.
Lately, a few of the boathouse owners start to open their boats for tours, restaurants, or accommodations. All of these activities are not allowed under tourist/fire control/hygiene/architecture/environment protection laws. Visitors’ rights will not be protected under the laws if they go there for sightseeing, recreation, or accommodation. Therefore, please be noted not to go to the Sun Moon Lake boathouses for any sightseeing activities.
