2008 Sun Moon Lake International Swimming Carnival—registration starts now! (2008-05-28 13:51:52)
   
 

I. Date: 31 August 2008 (Sunday)

   06:00 Gathering-up of carnival staff
   06:00 Registration for swimming teams/ organizations
   07:00 Start of swim for visually, physically, and physically and mentally challenged participants
   07:30 Start of swim for the first 100 teams who have registered at the counter
   07:55 Arrangement of all other teams
   08:00 Opening ceremony and speeches given by special guests
   08:20 Setting canons and colored balloons; start of swim for all other participants
   13:00 Request from lifeguards to ask late participants to get ashore
   14:00 End of the activity 

II. Swimming route:

     starting from Chaowu Pier, participants are to arrive at Ita Thao as their final destination. The route is about 3300 meters long.

III. How to register:

  • Entry requirement: participants must be more than 10 years of age (those who are underage or more than 65 years old must be safeguarded by adults with life-saving skills all the way through), healthy, and able to take up long swim. Both domestic and international people are welcome. Please register as a team of 10 people if possible (teams less than 5 members are not allowed to join the swim). * If you have heart diseases, high blood pressure, epilepsy, cellulitis, fever, or any conditions making swimming unsuitable for you, please do not register. Please also make sure that you will not inhale or inject any drugs, take any prohibited medicine, or drink alcohol before swimming.*
  • Registration period:
    (1) The registration starts from 1 June until 10 July, 2008. Please be noted that we do not consider late applications after that time.
    (2) The 2008 Sun Moon Lake International Swimming Carnival has a limited capacity of 22, 000 participants. Once the places are all filled, we will stop receiving new applications.
  • Entry fees:
    (1) The entry fee for members of Chinese Taipei Swimming Association is NTD 400 (member number of 2007 must be provided). For non-members, the entry fee is NTD 750. The fee for disabled participants (please include a copy of your disabled handbook) is NTD 350.
    (2) Please purchase postal orders and have them sent to the following account: Puliswim, Puli Township to pay the fees.

IV. Activity timeline:

(1) Participants should leave their vehicles to register at the fork road of Line-21 Highway (at the 61.5 KM spot) from 6 a.m. onwards on 31 August 2008. When the registration is completed, please walk to the venue for the opening ceremony.
(Participants will not be allowed to swim without swimming caps provided by us for identification. We suggest that participants of the same team arrive at the venue at the same time and wear our swimming caps.)
(2) The last time for registration: 1030 a.m., 31 August 2008.

V. Note:

(1) For safety reasons, no personal or on-site applications will be accepted. Participants should bring life-saving equipment or floats. Please do not wear flippers to avoid causing harm to others. (Swimming will be forbidden if without any life-saving equipment or floats).
(2) Please do not panic if you don’t feel well during the swim. Please hold on to your floats and wave your swimming cap for help. Teammates of the ill person should also assist lifeguards with timely rescue. (Please refrain from large signs or floats that might block the vision of lifeguards, so that they will not miss any emergencies due to visual dead spots.)
(3) This swimming carnival is not a competition. Please take your time
and enjoy a relaxed swim.

VI. Rewards:

(1) All participants will be given swimming caps, participation certificates, lunch boxes, drinks, and carnival shirts.
(2) In addition to "certificates of merits", couples whose age are more than 120, 130, or 140 (including exactly 120/130/140) in total will be entitled to free Polaroid photo services according to their participation certificates when ashore to commemorate this special event. (Please send copies of your ID when registering for the carnival. Those without ID proofs will be charged NTD 200 if they wish to take the Polaroid pictures.)
