Culinary Journey
Numerous mountain ridges surround Sun Moon Lake. Such a unique geographical environment has enhanced the mouth-watering gourmet varieties here, ranging from poultry and seafood specialties, to farming crops from the neighboring towns. No wonder it is also named the “Gourmet Heaven”!
Thao food of Sun Moon Lake People usually find it quite daunting when they enter their tourist destinations. Traveler-anxieties can never be avoided when it comes to food tasting. “Should we taste all the different food?” “Will the flavor be too strong for us?” “How do we know what to eat while we are here?” Questions such as these often put travelers off the first step of adventure seeking. However, such issues will not be a concern when you visit Sun Moon Lake. Under the detailed planning of the administration, not only will you find opportunities to try out different flavors of food, but you will also enjoy all the gourmet style cuisines here.
One particular dish that you might like to try is known as the "Sun Moon Lake Cuisine Combo".  It is definitely a "must-try" that enables you to open up your appetite to the unique "Sun Moon Lake" flavor. This combination contains ten different kinds of dishes.

Chi Yao Fish (Details regarding this dish are as listed on the Gourmet Section which also provide a list of the recommended restaurants close to the lake).

A little piece of advice: if you are traveling with a small group of people, don't forget to remind the waiter when ordering. Ask him to cut down the quantity of food served, so that you don't need to worry about not finishing them all, "size DOES matter"!
The more luxurious restaurants are mostly situated between Jhongshan Road and the old Mingsheng Street. Jhongshan Road intersects with Mingsheng Street to create a T-section. If you take a stroll from the station toward the lake, you will see numerous restaurants along the way. There are a larger variety of restaurants to choose from on Jhongshan Road. Although Minsheng Street is narrower in width, its vicinity to the lake provides nicer views out the restaurant windows. Besides these two locations, there are also nice restaurants on Yiyong Street that are worth a visit. Check them out when you come!
Another reminder: most of the restaurants here accept cash only, except for those located within the hotels. So prepare yourself some handy cash, in order to avoid scrubbing up the dishes in the kitchen… Have an enjoyable stay!
